The TCC Elite Cup – Season 1 Wrap Up

The TCC Elite Cup was held from 1st of July to 6th July, and featured eight professional clubs from The Creative Championship (Lagos State and Ogun State) and the Elite League (Abuja). Originally planned to feature the top four teams from these two leagues, Abuja’s N-Youth Sports Academy dropped out on the eve of the tournament, paving way for The Creative Championship’s Dino Sporting Club to take their place. This meant we proceeded with five teams from the The Creative Championship and three from the Elite League.

Tournament Results
Elite League’s Derby FC and Hype Buzz Academy topped Groups A and B, respectively while Real Sapphire FC and Beyond Limits FA finished second, as all four teams qualified for the knock-out stages.

Knockout Results
In the first semi-final, Derby FC eliminated Beyond Limits FA on penalties (3-1) after regulation time ended with both sides all squared (1-1). In the second semi-final, Real Sapphire FC defeated Hype Buzz Academy 2-1, setting up a rematch with Derby FC in the final.
Semi-Final 1: Derby FC 1 – 1 Beyond Limits FA (3-1 on penalties)
Semi-FInal 2: Real Sapphire FC 2 – 1 Hype Buzz Academy
Following a goalless regulation time in the final, Real Sapphire FC defeated Derby FC on penalties (2-1) to lift the maiden edition of the TCC Elite Cup.
Final: Real Sapphire FC 0 – 0 Derby FC (2-1 on penalties)

Golden Boot Winner: Muyideen Olude (Beyond Limits FA) – 2 Goals || Note: There was a 6-way tie for the golden boot. However, Muyideen Olude had the best goals-per-minute ratio with his 2 goals coming in 38 minutes (1 goal per 19 mins)
Golden Glove Winner: Godwin Azubogu (Real Sapphire FC) – 3 Clean Sheets
Tournament MVP: Ibrahim Isty (Derby FC)
